Our history
Built in 1202 to support Avanos's Alaaddin Mosque, this 800-year-old historic Turkish hammam was restored in 1726 and faithfully restored again in 2024.

The hammam was built in the Seljuk era to provide income for Avanos's Alaaddin Mosque — the start of more than 800 years of bathing tradition in the town.

The bathhouse was restored in 1726, carrying its domes, warm stone and marble basins into a new century of use.

A careful restoration returned the building to its original form, with its 14 domes, two heated göbek taşı platforms and marble basins.
Today
Alaaddin Hamam welcomes guests every day as a working Turkish bath, registered in the Turkish Cultural Inventory (Kültür Envanteri no. 411355).
Alaaddin Hamam was built in 1202, in the Seljuk era, to provide income for the Alaaddin Mosque of Avanos: the fees paid by bathers helped sustain the mosque. The Alaaddin name still connects the bath to that mosque and to more than 800 years of daily life in the town.
The bathhouse was restored in 1726, during the Ottoman period, carrying its domes, warm stone and marble basins into a new century of use. Seljuk foundations and Ottoman care meet in the same building, which is best understood as a layered place shaped by both periods.
In 2024 the hammam was faithfully restored to its original form. Today its 14 domes, two heated marble platforms (göbek taşı) of 15 m² each and marble basins welcome guests again as a working Turkish bath in the centre of Avanos.
Avanos is known for its pottery streets and for the Kızılırmak River, yet the town is more than one craft: river, clay, textiles, stone buildings and neighbourhood life all overlap. A historic bath fits into that picture, because it joins architecture with an everyday habit of care and hospitality. A pottery workshop, the riverbank, the old streets and the hammam each show Avanos from a different side.
