01What is a traditional Turkish hammam?

A hammam is a bathing house built around a central heated marble platform, surrounded by domed chambers, arches and small alcoves with marble basins. The rhythm of the visit — warmth, water, rest — is one of the oldest bathing traditions in Anatolia.

02Do I need to bring anything?

You do not need to bring anything special. We provide a traditional pestemal, towel, bathrobe, slippers and the personal-care essentials required for your ritual. Lockable changing lockers are available. You may bring swimwear if you prefer, but it is not required.

03Can couples receive their treatments side by side?

Yes. Couples can enjoy the ritual side by side. Private halvet washing rooms with curtained entrances are available for a more discreet shared experience; tell our team when you reserve so the right arrangement can be confirmed.

04Are the women’s and men’s sections mixed?

A completely separate private hammam section is available for women who require full privacy. In shared-use areas, reservations are carefully arranged so guests who do not know each other are not placed side by side. Bathrobes are required in common relaxation areas.

05Can I request a female or male therapist?

Yes. Female therapists attend female guests and male therapists attend male guests, and you are welcome to state a preference when you reserve. Please share it at the time of booking so our team can confirm the arrangement for your slot.

06Who are your therapists?

Our team brings together Turkish therapists and therapists who came to us from Bali, Indonesia. Each is a certified specialist in their craft, and they continue to train while they are with us — in occupational safety, first aid and health. Their certificates can be seen at the hammam.

07Does Alaaddin Hamam have private rooms?

Yes. Private rooms are available for guests who want a completely exclusive and discreet hammam or massage experience. The Sultan package includes a private VIP suite for you or you and your partner.

08How does the complimentary transfer work?

According to the hammam's recorded local account, Alaaddin Hamam dates to 1202 and was restored during the Ottoman period in 1726. It remains part of Avanos rather than a staged reconstruction of the past.

The domes, marble basins and central heated stone still shape the ritual today. Here, history is experienced through water, warmth and the unhurried rhythm of a traditional Turkish bath.

Water is drawn from marble basins with a copper bowl and poured over the shoulders — the oldest gesture in Anatolian bathing.
