The History of Alaaddin Hamam in Avanos

The hammam's own historical account traces the building to 1202, a period associated with the reign of Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat. The dating and attribution are drawn from the hammam's documented local history rather than from external archaeological publication.

Local tradition also describes a later interruption — a period of flooding followed by closure — before an Ottoman-period restoration returned the building to use in 1726.

Beneath the property lies an old water well. In local memory, the well is bound up with stories of the site's long relationship to water. Those stories belong to the cultural fabric of Avanos and are shared here as folklore, not as medical claims.
